Ehrhardt chose Waldemar Schornstein to write the accompanying text to his photo book Kristalle, published 1939. Influenced by goetheanic ideas, the anthroposophic scholar Schornstein analysed the "sensual-moral effect" of the crystals. And even though critics complained that the topic was treated with a lack of expertise, they agreed that the photographs were of an outstanding quality. Ehrhardt's crystals, they said, were a voyage "into that mysterious world of most regular natural forms, in which anorganic matter appears to prefigure the sphere of the spiritual and so understand everything spiritual as - still - a product of nature".
